Do Premium Dice Make a Difference? Reviewing Baron of Dice

We’ve all been there watching and waiting in anticipation as that dice spins around the table then finally lands flat…on a one. That sinking feeling in your gut – the dice gods have failed you again!

I’ve been playing Warhammer 40K for many years and have certainly gone through my share of dice over that time. Like many Warhammer players, I love collecting dice. At events I often do dice swaps with opponents to add to my collection. I’ve rolled and played with just about every dice there is. Recently I was lucky enough to get a couple of sets of dice from Baron of Dice to review. So, are premium dice actually worth it?

Design and Aesthetics

Baron of Dice offers a ton of unique designs for all kinds of factions in Warhammer. With nearly 400 different offerings there’s plenty of options to pick from. They even offer custom dice with your own logo in bulk which is perfect for a team or club.

The dice sets I chose specifically were the “Blood Soaked Angels – Chain Blades” dice for my Blood Angels and the “Infinity Elves” dice for my Aeldari. The great thing about these sets is you can choose to get rounded or square corners (and I always recommend square corners). They also come in these awesome little metal tins which makes packing them back up and tracking them to make sure you didn’t lose a dice very easy.

I particularly love the matte finish on these dice. They don’t feel as slippery in your hand when you grip them which is a huge plus for me. I love that they have square corner options as dice with square corners tend to roll with better precision and don’t spin in the tray.

I also love how easy the pips are to identify. The Chain Blades dice also feature blood drops for the pips which are a nice little aesthetic touch. They are lightweight but not “cheap” feeling.

Practicality for Gameplay

I had a tournament this past weekend, so this was a perfect opportunity for me to use my new dice. I packed up my Blood Angels and my Chain Blade Dice and off we went. I played 3 games with them in an event on Sunday. I felt they rolled average throughout all 3 of my games, which is what you want in your dice. There weren’t any moments in any of my games where I thought “man these dice just keep rolling high/low consistently.”

The pips and symbols were easy to read and identify for both myself and my opponents. There’s nothing worse than playing with someone using custom dice where the pips are hard to identify and read quickly as it slows the games down. These dice rolled well in the tray without a lot of spinning or bouncing out and were clear to identify quickly.

Are They Worth It?

These sets are priced at $34.99 for a set of 25 which I think may initially seem steep, but considering the quality, aesthetics and ease of use is actually a pretty good value. I especially love the metal tins as the dice fit precisely in them so you don’t have to spend time counting dice to make sure you didn’t lose one along the way. They rolled well and had a pretty average distribution in all my games.

Bottom line: Yes, Baron of Dice sets are worth it. They are a premium product but have great design value, clear visibility for quicker games, and are easy to transport between games in their tins.

If you’re interested in getting a set yourself you can head on over to Baron of Dice and have a look over their sets. The hardest decision will be which ones to pick up! Also when you order you can include the promo code GRIMHAMMER for 5% off your total order (perfect for buying multiple sets in one go.)

Final Thoughts

A special shout out to Baron of Dice for being kind enough to send these sets for review. These dice are very much worth a look and I’m excited to keep using them in my games.
